Investors are heading to the sidelines in early July as vacations loom and the second quarter earnings season start, as reflected in the emerging markets equity funds that recorded outflows for the second time in three weeks, according to EPFR Global.
In a report issued on July 10, it said equity funds posted outflows of US$1.87 billion during the first week of July while fixed income funds absorbed a net US$2.95 billion.
Fresh doubts about US appetite for emerging markets exports and global demand for raw materials prompted investors to pull some money off the table in early July, with EPFR Global-tracked Asia ex-Japan and Latin America Equity Funds surrendering US$365 million and US$307 million respectively, more than offsetting the US$131 million absorbed by GEM Equity Funds and the US$1 million taken in by EMEA Equity Funds.
