Second Stimulus Package

On the economic front, a supplementary supply bill with an allocation of RM10 billion was tabled for the first reading in the Dewan Rakyat on March 5, paving the way for the second stimulus package to be implemented.

Of the amount, RM5 billion would be for operational expenditure and another RM5 billion for development expenditure as part of the government’s effort to stimulate the economy.

According to economists, the mini-budget will not be confined to just spending on construction projects but also on measures to cut business costs and save jobs.

A RM10 billion to RM15 billion stimulus package could increase Malaysia’s fiscal deficit to over 7% of GDP, according to economist.

The external trade data is expected to be released at midday today.
