GCB, Emerges One Of The Largest Cocoa Processor In Asia

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Guan Chong Bhd (GCB) has emerged one of the largest cocoa processor in Asia after successfully commissioning its cocoa grinding facility in Batam, Indonesia.

GCB invested about RM70 million in the first phase of construction and installation of the new facility which boasts of an initial annual grinding capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes.

With the new facility, GCB now has a total annual capacity of 140,000 metric tonnes, adding to the group's 80,000 metric tonne facility in Pasir Gudang, Johor, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Brandon Tay Hoe Lian said in a statement on Tuesday.

For the financial year ended Dec 31, 2010, group revenue soared to RM1.2 billion compared with RM642.7 million in 2009, while net profit and earnings per share recorded best-ever numbers of RM100.0 million and 41.7 sen, respectively, versus RM14.3 million and 5.9 sen previously.
