Salcon secured industrial wastewater concession in China (Edge)

Salcon Bhd has secured its first industrial wastewater concession in China which is expected to generate revenue of RMB1.0 billion throughout a 30-year concession period.

Under the agreement, Salcon will acquire, upgrade, operate and maintain the Southeast Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (SIWTP), which is located at Tian Ning District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China.

Salcon said it would acquire SIWTP and related facilities on a transfer-operate-transfer basis for RMB60 million (approximately RM27.7 million).

The upgrading works are estimated to be completed within a period of nine months (upon approval by the relevant government authorities), upon which, the treatment capacity of the plant shall be 30 million litres per day.

Salcon executive director Datuk Eddy Leong Kok Wah said the company was very positive of the potential of the new business area due to the rapid industrialisation in China.

"This acquisition marks Salcon’s first industrial wastewater plant in China where investment returns are much higher as compared to municipal water and wastewater projects. This represents a diversification within our core water assets in China," he said. -- Bernama
