Stocks to watch: Pulai Springs, Scomi, Notion VTec (Edge)

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia could extend their gains on Tuesday, Aug 2 after an 11th-hour deal to avoid a U.S. government default.

Reuters reported that while Japan and Germany welcomed the news but officials in both countries said Washington must do more to deal with its huge debt burden and the threat of a cut in its credit ratings.

Japan, second to China as America's biggest creditor, joined other countries and investors in praising the deal but said it hoped the United States would take additional steps to stabilise its finances and head off the threat of a downgrade.

Stocks which could see trading interest include PULAI SPRINGS BHD [], SCOMI ENGINEERING BHD [] and NOTION VTEC BHD [].

The largest shareholder of Pulai Springs Bhd has launched a takeover of the company by offering RM1.18 cash per share, which is 31.11% over the five-day volume weighted average price (VWAP) of 90 sen.

The Johor-based golf course operator said it had received the notice of conditional take-over offer from Swift Redeem Sdn Bhd, which owns 32%.

At the offer price of RM1.18 cash, this is 28 sen above the VWAP of 90 sen up to July 28.

A consortium including Scomi Engineering Bhd has finally inked an agreement with the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Company for the monorail system.

The agreement was signed on July 30 in Brazil for the project which involves the design, manufacture, supply and implementation of the monorail system. The project contract was for the RM2.6 billion Line 17 monorail project in Sao Paulo.

Notion VTec Bhd said its controlling shareholders were still in negotiations with various parties over the latter’s interest to acquire the business or equity interest in the company.

It said that it was informed by the shareholders that “the negotiations with various parties are still on-going”.
