The inflation rate in April rose 3% on year due to higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, according to the Statistics Department.
It said on May 20 the consumer price index (CPI) for April showed a decline of 0.2% from March. As for January to April, the CPI increased by 3.5% to 111.7 from 107.9 in previous corre4sponding period.
The department said the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages for April 2009 compared to a year ago showed a high percentage change of 7.5%, while the index for non-food increased by 0.9%.
When compared with March, the CPI for April dipped 0.2% due to declines in three main groups namely food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.4%); transport and miscellaneous goods and services by 0.2%.
